South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships 2018, Graves Park

Conditions in Graves Park for the SY Schools cross championships were cold and wet underfoot.

Jodie Hill made light work of the conditions to win the IG race in 16:12. Laura Trask was well clear in 2nd in 17:00 with Holly Booker running well to take 3rd in 17:37. Eve Crownshaw finished 5th in 17:55.

Taylor Hill ran very strongly in the IB race to finish 2nd in 22:20 with Joe McDadd also running well in a high quality race to take 3rd in 22:28.

David Lewis kept his concentration and finished strongly on the final lap to take 4th in 28:05 in the SB race. Clinton Htoo worked hard to finish 11th in 35:10.

Saskia Huxham took a break from indoor work to finish 5th in 17:28 in the SG race.

Zena Hartley finished strongly in the JG race taking 5th in 14:35.

Congratulations to the following athletes who have been selected to represent SY Schools at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Leeds on March 17.

Northern Athletics Cross Country Championships, Harewood House, Leeds

Harewood House provided a tough test of cross country running over undulating terrain, rough grass and mud. The group had another excellent day at a major championships with individual and team medals, fine individual performances and a valuable experience for the development of our juniors who all performed well.

Steve Bayton improved on his fine run at the Yorkshire championships to claim the SM bronze medal. Always in the leading group, Steve moved well clear of the following pack to take third in 40:10. Rob Little continued his good winter form, finishing 25th in 41:54. Connor Milnes continued his return to form, running much more relaxed throughout, to finish 35 in 42:40. Bertie Houghton made a welcome return, finishing 68th in 44:03 with John Birch running strongly in 73rd in 44:14 and Pete Hodges moving through the field to take 95th in 45:11 to bring the team home in 6th. Nic Barber was 100th in 46:26, Craig Fishwick 144th in 46:56, Mike Sprot 156th in 47:19, Matt Payne 264th in 50:16 and Rob Cook 370th in 52:56.

Charlotte Ward led out the SW team, finishing 33rd in 33:48. Hannah Fletcher ran hard throughout to finish 46th in 34:25 with Zanthe Wray close behind in 48th in 34:30 and Aislinn Prendergast running well in 63rd in 35:48 to bring the team home in 7th. Charlotte Slack ran strongly to finish 82nd in 36:50 with Hannah Whitelam close behind in 89th (37:26), Ellie Crownshaw 152nd in 40:09 and Rachel Poole 220th in 42:29. Evie Brailsford ran well to finish around 35th but has not been recorded in the results because her chip was missing.

Cameron Bell had his best run of the winter, finishing very quickly over the 8k course to take 5th in 28:14 in the U20M race.

Imani Wilson continued her return from injury with a good run to finish 13th in 24:56 in the U20W race. Lexie Wilson continued her improvement, finishing 52nd in 29:27.

David Lewis made a fast start in the U17M race and worked hard to finish 90th in 24:43.

Laura Trask produced another strong run to take 17th in 22:53 in the U17W race with Eve Crownshaw also running well to finish 25th in 23:36.

Joe McDadd continued his impressive winter season, looking strong and finish quickly over 6k to take 8th in the U15B race with a time of 14:26. Taylor Hill worked hard to take 26h in 14:55 with James Hartley 38th in 15:08. Dylan Stevens, one of the youngest in the race, finished 113th in 16:19 and was rewarded for racing hard throughout to bring the team home in first place and claim the team gold. Sam Tierney (SheffTriClub) ran well to finish 118th in 16:25 and Jonah Patton gave a typical gutsy performance to finish 144th in 17:05.

Jodie Hill was in a leading breakaway group from the start of the U15G race and ran very well to claim the bronze medal in 15:47. Holly Booker was much more relaxed, finishing 53rd in 17:45 to bring the team home to the silver medal. Zena Hartley looked strong in 80th in 18:23 and Emily Hunter continued her improvement over the country to finish 89th in 18:34.

FFion Patton ran well in the U13G race to finish 77th in 13:01.

Sheffield Schools Cross Country Championships, Graves Park

Dylan Stevens ran a controlled race to win the JB race at the Sheffield Schools xc championships by a comfortable margin.

Zena Hartley was 3rd in the JG race with Emily Hunter 7th.

Taylor Hill and Joe McDadd opened up a significant lead in the IB race with Taylor eventually pulling away to win with Joe 2nd,  finishing very quickly on the run in. Tom Atkinson worked hard in finishing 9th.

Jodie Hill lead from the gun to win the IG race in impressive style. Laura Trask ran strongly to take 2nd with Eve Crownshaw 3rd and Holly Booker 4th.

In the SB race, David Lewis was 6th and Clinton Htoo 9th.

Great Edinburgh International XC, Edinburgh

Andy Heyes, representing GB, was 24th in the international 8k race in 26:10.

Cameron Bell helped the North of England to the bronze medal in the team event in the SM 8k race. Cameron finished 20th overall and 4th U20 in 27:30.

Lauren Stoddard was 35th in 25:04 in the SM 6k race.

Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Cross Country Championships 2018, Shipley Park

Bertie Houghton won the SM title in 36:31 at the Nottinghamshire cross country championships over a very muddy and testing course at Shipley Park.

In the Derbyshire cross country championships at the same venue, Euan Patton was 13th in 21:06 in the U15B race.

Ffion Patton ran very well in the muddy conditions to finish 4th in 16:19 in the U13G race.

Yorkshire Cross Country Championships 2018, Lightwater Valley

The championship racing season got off to a very good start start with individual and team medals and some fine performances at the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships. It was also pleasing to see so many athletes in the different teams representing HHS.

Steve Bayton led the SM team to the bronze medal with another fine run in the Yorkshires to claim the bronze individual medal in 34:22. Rob Little was in fine form, running very strongly to finish 5th in 35:25 and clinch a Yorkshire vest. Connor Milnes continued his return to form, starting quickly and running well to finish 18th in 36:35. Pete Hodges made good progress on each lap to take 38th in 38:14 and along with Nic Barbour, finishing strongly in 39th in 38:17, helped to clinch the team medal. Sam Peters was 50th in 39:22, Dave Sprot 54th in 39:36, Rob Furness 70th in 40:51, Mike Sprot 73rd in 40:53, Craig Fishwick 80th in 41:06, Carl Egdell 93rd in 41:54 and Mat Payne 107th in 42:37.

The SM team performed very well to finish 2nd and claim the team silver. Natalia Hackett produced a fine performance to finish 4th in 30:46. Evie Brailsford also ran extremely well, moving through the field to take 6th in 31:09. Charlotte Ward made a quick start and the hung on well to finish 10th in 31:26. Zanthe Wray ran hard over the last half of the course to finish 11th in 31:44 and help clinch the team silver. Hannah Fletcher was always in contention as a team counter and ran well to take 12th in 31:44. Charlotte Slack ran well to finish 28th in 34:27 and Hannah Whitelam looked strong in taking 34th in 35:05. Aislinn Prendergast, in her debut for the SW, also ran well in 37th in 35:21 with Ellie Crownshaw 49th in 36:58, Lexi Wilson 67th in 39:00 and Rachel Poole 74th in 39:55.

Natalia and Evie claimed automatic selection for Yorkshire and the B team also finished 5th.

Cameron Bell was in the leading from the start of the U20M race and came through to take 3rd in 28:26, the bronze medal and automatic selection for Yorkshire at the Inter-Counties.

Laura Trask continued her improvement with a fine 4th place (16:57) in the U17W race. Eve Crownshaw ran strongly to finish 7th in 17:23 and Saskia Huxham, in finishing 12th in 18:05, brought the team home to the silver medal. Laura and Eve gained automatic selection for Yorkshire.

Taylor Hill and Joe McDadd made fast starts to ensure that they were always with the leading group in a very strong U15B race. Taylor ran a very mature race and was involved in a very close sprint to the line, taking the bronze medal in 14:45. Joe, in his first Yorkshire championships, battled strongly throughout to take 6th in 14:56. Dylan Stevens and Tom Atkinson worked hard throughout to finish 41st (17:22) and 58th (18:20) respectively. The team won the Yorkshire title and gold medal and Taylor and Joe gained Yorkshire vests.

Jodie Hill produced and outstanding run, leading the U15G race from the gun and eventually moving away to win in 14:48, gain a Yorkshire vest and lead the team to the gold medal. Zena Hartley and Holly Booker were involved in a close race, finishing 29th in 16:57 and 30th in 16:58 respectively. Emily Hunter ran well to finish 35th in 17:23.
