Northern Road Relay Championships, Stanley Park, Blackpool

Saturday 19 September 2015

The winter season got off to a very promising start with some very good individual and team performances from athletes in our group.

The men’s team qualified comfortably for the National championships finishing 8th overall and taking the silver medal in the Yorkshire championships. Dave Archer, having been ill earlier in the week, battled through the opening leg to finish37th in 21:45. Andy Heyes then ran 19:32, the second fastest time of the day, to move the team into 7th. Connor Milnes ran very well to record 21:11 and maintain position. Ben Beattie worked hard under pressure from runners behind to finish 9th in 21:57. Tom Bains set off very quickly and maintained the team position with a time of 21:22. Andy Challenger brought the team home in 8th place running very well to record 20:50.

Our women’s team was depleted by international call ups for two runners and injury. Hannah Fletcher made a very positive start and finished 21st in 19:14. Charlotte Slack gained a place to finish 19th in 20:35.

The U17W A team finished a very creditable 7th overall and won the gold medal in the Yorkshire championships. Mary McCarthy produced a typical battling performance to lead the opening leg for much of the race and eventually finish 7th in 14:08, the 8th fastest time of the day. Caitlin Tevendale made good start to the winter campaign with a good run to come home 9th in 16:03. Lilly Fletcher gained two places to finish 7th in 14:49 and clinch the Yorkshire title.

Aimee Hill got the B team off to a good start, finishing 23rd in 16:53. Ruby Knight worked very hard to move up to 20th in 17:09. Imani Wilson, making a welcome return after prolonged injury, gained a further four places to bring the team home in 16th with a time of 15:18.

David Lewis led off the U15B team, working hard to finish 33rd in 11:46. The other two runners, from different HHS groups, were Ryan Selman who was 39th in 15:16 and Tristan Gale who brought the team home in 32nd in 13:19.

Sakia Huxham ran well on the opening leg of the U15G race to finish 5th in 11:51, the 9th fastest time of the day. Laura Trask showed her improvement with another very good run to maintain 5th place in 12:44. Unfortunately the team did not have a 3rd runner.

Taylor Hill produced a dominant performance to win the opening leg of the U13B race by a significant margin. His time of 10:46 was the fastest time of the day. He was aided in winning the Northern and Yorkshire silver medals by fine runs by Dylan Stevens who finished 1st in 11:38 and Tom Valentine who ran well to bring the team home in 2nd in 11:57. Both Dylan and Tom train in other HHS groups.

The U13G A team finished 5th overall and 2nd in the Yorkshire championships. Tati Wilson led the team off, coming home in 22nd in 13:06. Holly Booker gained five places to move the team to 17th in 13:19. Jodie Hill produced an outstanding run to record 11:58, the second fastest time of the day, and bring the team through to 5th and clinch the Yorkshire silver.

The B team, made up of runner from other HHS groups, performed very well to finish 11th. Emily Hunter ran very well to finish 8th on the opening leg in 12:30, only just outside the fastest 10 times of the day. Lois Blake was 15th in 13:45 and Zena Hartley gained four places to finish 11th in 13:00.
