British Milers Club Grand Prix 2, Watford

Cameron Bell took advantage of the good conditions for the 2nd BMC GP at Watford to lower his pb. Finding better space on the track at this meeting, Cameron held off the rest of the field to finish 2nd in 1:52.46, fractionally outside the European Youth qualifying time (1:52.00).

Igor Bougnot was 2nd in an exciting 3k steeple chase with a new pb of 8:54.83. Bertie Houghton was 5th in 9:08.66.

Loughborough International

Tom Horton won the 3k steeple chase at the Loughborough International with a new pb of 8:58.57 just beating Bertie Houghton who also ran a new pb of 8:58.60. Their times are the 9th and 10th fastest in the UK this year.

Becky Rigby also ran a pb to finish 4th in the women’s 3k in 9:34.94.

Great Manchester 10k

Andy Heyes returned to racing after a long lay off and finished 10th in the Great Manchester 10k in 30:49 in a race won by Keninisa Bekele. Joe Wilkinson ran a new pb to finish 17th in 31:23 (1st U20) and Andy Challenger was 22nd in 31:42.

Nicky Squires was 17th (114th overall) in the women’s race in 36:33.

Askern 10k

Zak Mellard was 3rd at the Askern 10k in 33:24 and Jon Slate was 27th (5th M40) in 36:34.

Zanthe Wray ran a new pb of 36:46 in finishing 2nd in the women’s race (28th overall).

YDL (U13/U15) 2, Doncaster

Taylor Hill was 2nd in the U15B 1500m A race in 4:47.0 and also finished 4th in the 200B race in 29.8.

Jodie Hill won the U15G 1500m B race in 5:03.0 with Laura Trask 2nd overall and winner of the B race in 5:18.2. Tati Wilson won the A 800m in 2:30.9 while Holly Booker won the B race in 2:39.9. Tati also won the A 300m  in 46.1 and Holly the B race in 49.1. In the non-scoring 800m, May Quinn won in 2:40.7 with Ellie Rogers 2nd in 2:43.4.

Zena Hartley had a comfortable win the U13G 1200m A race in 4:04.5

Connor Milnes was with the leading group throughout the opening heat of the 3k, finishing 3rd with a new pb of 8:40.4

The BMC 1500m proved to be 2 separate races with Jake Wightman being paced to a fast time. Cameron Bell was left to lead the rest of the race without any help from more senior athletes. Cameron finished 4th in 3:58.63.

Jack Wells led the 1500m B for most of the race with David Lewis in close attendance. Both were rewarded with significant new pbs. Jack was 2nd in 4:20.73 with David 4th in 4:23.50. Mary McCarthy, in her first 1500m of the season was 12th in 4:58.82.

BMC Grand Prix 1, Sportcity, Manchester

Saturday 14 May.

Cameron Bell was involved in a very physical 800m heat at the first BMC Grand Prix. He battled his way to 4th place with a new pb of 1:53.57, inside the English Schools qualifying time and just outside the qualifying time for the European Youth Championships.

Race C of the 5k proved a domestic battle for dominance with Johnie Collier taking 5th and being rewarded for taking the pace for much of the race with a new pb of 14:41.29. Steve Bayton also improved his pb to 14:42.23 in 6th and Joe Wilkinson ran a huge pb, finishing 9th in 14:50.30. Tom Bains was fractionally outside his pb in 11th with a time of 14:59.50.

Yorkshire Track and Field Championships, Cudworth

The Yorkshire championships proved a very successful weekend for the group with 5 gold medals, 3 silver, two bronze and a host of pbs. Those competing on Saturday were faced with windy conditions compared to the warmer and still weather for Sunday.

Connor Milnes dominated the senior men’s 1500m, leading from the gun in a strong wind to win in 4:04.49.

Hannah Fletcher was a convincing winner in the senior women’s 3k, running a new pb to take the gold in 10:00.29.

Charlotte Slack took the bronze medal in the senior women’s 800m in 2:18.41 (with the first 4 women all on 2:18). She then ran 59.70 to finish 4th in the 400m.

Josh Walton was 5th in the U20M 1500m (the official time has not been included in the published results).

Imani Wilson also ran a pb to win the U20W 3k  in 10:54.52 with Lilly Fletcher taking the silver medal in 11:01.24.

Caitlin Tevendale won her first ever individual Yorkshire medal, running 66.29 to take the bronze in the U20W 400m.

Saskia Huxham had a very successful weekend winning double gold. She won the U17W 300m hurdles with a fine time of 45.79 (the 6th fastest time in the UK) and then ran a pb of 2:14.66 to win the 800m with a strong final lap.

David Lewis was 12th in the U17M 1500m in 4:39.39.

Jodie Hill claimed the silver medal in a high quality U15G 1500m, finishing very strongly to take 2nd with a new pb of 4:56.32. Laura Trask and May Quinn both ran pbs, with Laura finishing 6th in 5:11.46 and May 10th in 5:28.48.

Tati Wilson finished 7th in the 800m final in 2:36.85. Earlier in the day, Tati had won her heat in 2:30.09 with Ellie Rogers running a pb of 2:35.97 for 4th place. Holly Booker finished 5th in her heat in 2:35.56.

Taylor Hill was involved in a fast U15B 1500m, eventually taking 5th with a new PB of 4:36.88. Ben Shaw, racing in his first ever track championships, ran well to finish 13th and improve his pb to 4:57.92.

The U13G 800m final was a high quality race with Zena Hartley taking the silver medal in a pb of 2:26.58 with Emily Hunter also running a pb of 2:35.14 for 6th place. The day before Zena had won her heat in 2:31.26 and Emily had run a pb in her heat, finishing 3rd in 2:37.40.

Zena Hartley ran a new pb of 2:26.8 to finish 2nd in the U13G 800m with Emily Hunter was 6th in 2:37.9.

Hannah Fletcher improved her 1500m pb to 4:42.1 in winning the 1500m A race.

Charlotte Slack won the 200m A race in 27.0, the 400m A in 61.9 and the 800m A in 2:25.6.

Imani Wilson won the 3k A in 11:10.1 with Lilly Fletcher winning the B race in 11:22.2.

Caitlin Tevendale won the 400m B race in 66.4.

David Lewis won the 800m B race in 2:17.1
