Some of the highlights from the opening two races at the Sheffield Secondary Schools cross country league were:

Race 1 High Hazels (8 October 2016)

Wins for Tati Wilson (JG), Eve Crownshaw (IG), Imani Wilson (SG), Taylor Hill (JB) and David Lewis (IB).

Race 1 Longley Park (15 October 2016)

Wins for Jodie Hill (JG), Laura Trask (IG) and Taylor Hill (JB).

Northern Cross Country Relays 2016, Graves Park

The Senior Men’s A team finished a creditable 6th. Connor Milnes ran well on a strong opening leg to finish 9th in 10:26. Gavin Keight made a flawless start, finishing 14th in 11:10. Bertie Houghton moved the team into 7th recording 10:23. Tom Horton gained a rapidly on the 5th, 4th and 3rd places but had to settle for 6th in 10:11 (the 8th fastest time of the day) after turning his ankle in the trees.

The B team were given a good start by Cameron Bell in 15th in 10:37. Josh Walton ran well to take 20th in 11:21. Andy Thake looked strong on his return gaining 5 places with 11:00 and Zak Mellard brought the team home in 14th in 11:11.

Paul Faulkner led off the C team, finishing 47th in 12:05. Phil Cooper moved to 43rd with 12:01 and Adam Dyson gained a further 5 places with 12:18. Dean Furniss moved up 3 places to bring the team home in 35th in 12:27.

The Women’s A team were unlucky to miss out on the medals finishing 4th. Zanthe Wray was 7th on the opening leg in 12:02. Imani Wilson moved to 4th with 12:26 and Nicola Squires held the position with a time of 12:20.

Mary McCarthy led off the B team, finishing 11th in 12:41. Lilly Fletcher ran well to maintain the position with 13:00 and Charlotte Slack came home in 11th in 13:24.

Ellie Crownshaw was 18th on the opening leg for the C team in 13:25. Rachel Poole ran strongly to finish 24th in 14:40 and Caitlin Tevendale gained 4 places to bring the team home in 20th in 14:26.

Billy Hinchcliff fell at the start of the U17m race, eventually finishing 15th in 7:43. David Lewis gained 2 places with a time of 7:57. Jack Wells held the position on the final leg with a time of 7:52.

Taylor Hill helped the U15B A team to 6th place with an opening leg in 7:07 (the 11th fastest time of the day) for 8th place.

Jodie Hill put the U15G A team into the bronze medal position on the opening leg with 7:50, the 5th fastest time of the day. Eve Crownshaw ran confidently to maintain the position with 8:06. Laura Trask held off the chasing runners with a strong final leg in 8:12 to clinch the bronze medal.

Holly Booker led off the B team, finishing 17th in 8:28. Tati Wilson gained 5 places with 8:26 and May Quinn moved the team into 9th place with 8:38.

Ellie Rogers was on the opening leg of the C team, finishing 30th in 9:07.

Dylan Stevens ran well on the first leg for the U13B A team, finishing 13th in 5:43.

Zena Hartley took over in the lead for the U13G A team and clinched the gold medal with a strong run in 5:59.

Emily Hunter led off the B team, finishing 21st in 6:21.

National Road Relay Championships 2016, Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield

The Senior Women produced one of the best ever results for HHS at the National 4 stage road relays. Charlotte Ward was faced with the difficult task on the opening leg of dealing with a crowded start and very competitive field. Charlotte finished 37th in 15:46. Hatti Archer, following her success at the World Mountain Running championships, moved the team through to 19th with 15:10. Lizzie Adams confirmed her return to form with the 8th fastest leg of the day, finishing 7th in 14:35. Nicky Squires ran a fine final leg to bring the team home 6th in 15:16.

Tom Horton got the Senior Men’s team off to a good start, running 18:22 for 29th. Connor Milnes ran a strong leg to finish 32nd in 18:33. The team then suffered a disaster at the take over with Gavin Keight not seeing the incoming runner and then waiting for a long time before setting off. Gavin was given a time of 22:40 and finished in 73rd. Wyatt Hill ran well to move to 70th in 19:39. Cameron Bell, making his debut for the seniors, ran 19:45 to finish 63rd. Dave Archer brought the team home in 55th with 19:07.

May Quinn ran a strong leg on the opening leg of the U15G race, finishing 38th in 15:34. Holly Booker gained 5 places, running hard on the second half of the course, to finish 33rd in 15:43. Jodie Hill moved consistently through the field to finish 22nd with a fine time of 14:34.

The U13G team finished a very creditable 18th. Zena Hartley made a fine start in 16th in 15:19. Emily Hunter moved the team up to 13th in 15:45. Katie Adams ran well, bringing the team home in 18th in 16:14.
